Statement: Keith Pekau Responds to State of the Union Address

“We all agree the world needs to stay united in support of Ukraine and against Russia’s atrocities. One of the best ways to do this is to enact policies that allow the United States to once again become energy independent, as we were just two short years ago, so we can be an exporter of oil and gas to our allies in Europe and elsewhere.

I agree with the president that we need to fight inflation. Right now, working families are struggling to keep up with the rising costs of gas and utility prices, forcing them to make tough decisions on where their money goes. However, his solution to fix high inflation is more government spending, raising taxes on businesses and families, and increasing government mandates and policies that have led to the highest energy costs in our country’s history. Anyone with a basic understanding of economics knows that these polices will add to inflation not tame it and Americans deserve better!

I was happy to hear President Biden disavow the Democratic Party’s plan to defund the police. However, his remaining approach on crime follows failed Democratic policies of blaming police first and a series of additional gun laws. Instead, we need to protect Americans by enforcing existing laws, holding criminals accountable, and keeping violent criminals behind bars so our neighborhoods can be secure.

I look forward to representing the 6th District in Congress and working to keep Americans safe and prosperous by putting people over politics.”
